Speak Up

A great many people mumble, especially when they’re unsure of themselves or providing excessive detail. Some people have naturally soft speaking voices. Many listeners have minor hearing issues of which they are not always aware.

Speak up at meetings.  It’s ironic that people shout into their cell phones at one person and talk softly at a meeting with 20 people.

I’ve often been asked what it means to “speak with influence.” It means to be confident, succinct, provocative, and use VOLUME.

No one ever whispered “Charge” or “Go for the gold.” Or at least if they did, no one heard them or paid any attention.

When I coached Miss USA and Miss America contestants in interviewing skills I asked them to speak to me from two rooms away.

It’s better for someone to have to say, “Stop shouting, we can hear you,” than, “Speak up, we can’t hear you.”

Assuming you want to be heard.
