Kids need 30 million words- innovative childcare can and must help

Video Clip: Click to Watch

Ready, Set, they need you, right now. Summer is upon us and NPR has started the annual reading list.

Kids First can transform the school day to day experience from black and white to a child's full-color participation. Their programs can help our hidden students with poor homework to more successful behaviors.  With attention, children can achieve and gain acumen towards better figures in their core subjects..... whether English, Math or Science and ultimately better test scores and self-confidence.  The ominous shadow ( hidden figures= an underachiever or a child who submits poor work) can be impacted by time on task and ongoing affordable, high quality, and local, creative support. It's all the parents that could use your help right now not just those with existing subsidies.

KidsFirst at Hamlin has slots for more children and an immediate need for a monetary match. You know the problem..the economy, the budget, slashed plans.  Now Kids First Kids need your help to save their Summer Program toute suite. Here's the background on this worthy program, some of the videos and reasons it is so important to save as a partner in the District's academic mastery goals and a job creator and service to families and the children who love it.

This year like last year costs are going up in all areas of family cost of living costs except one precious factor, the fact that parents count on Kids First, a fiscal sponsee program of New Education Options, operating at Hamlin Charter Academy in West Hills to provide high quality, innovative and creative programs in the San Fernando Valley at an affordable rate.

In 2015, Kids First at Hamlin (KFH), under NEO (New Education Options, Inc.) acting as a fee for service program under its fiscal sponsor agency operating as a nonprofit public benefit educational corporation project brought10 little girls to light up the lives of guest scientists from the U.S. and overseas at the JPL/NASA's GLOBE Conference banquet singing for the first time for LAUSD guests, the National Science Foundation sponsored the District and the Mayor's office. They learned a song in 3 days and performed like pros- even though they had never sung in public before and ranged from 5-8.

In 2016, KFH was able to provide snacks, fieldtrips, science and arts programming, a garden, performances, tutoring and more to children despite a rent hike.

Today just one year later they are at a dramatic risk of closing their summer due to an unexplained rent hike and a lack of district response to find workable options in a timely manner.

So Kids First, not wanting to close its program has calculated like the little train that could it will remain open despite the need to hear from the district and be recognized for its smaller learning community approach potentially saving dollars, setting new standards for individualized training, and building resilient learners if it can create an immediate cash match of $6500.00.

It needs a miracle of a tax exempt gift to match what it was able to set aside based on last year's rent and the program will start when scheduled this June.

Whether a donor advised emergency gift, a direct deposit gift to New Education Options for Kids First of Hamlin via merchant account credit card or debit card, your gift will underwrite jobs, services and programs for Summer 2017 June 12-Aug. 11th). Please take action today (Thursday May 25 and 24th to resolve our matching needs to go forward in ESC NW and West Hills. Your gift is tax deductible and will help children with school readiness, tutoring, focus, and social skills that matter.

The hidden figures here are not the scientists in the Academy Award Nominated Film, they are not yet full-fledged scientists, they are the youngest cohort across grade levels 1-5 that are doing real science and building their maker, collaborator, and playful minds (sulci or brain development through experience, problem solving, and word familiarity). Whether collaborating, inventing, or joyously learning, children need the powerful impact of extended days and time to build the neural pathways to inclusion, options, and wonderful lives. You can help 3rd graders get over their slow down or a brace of kids conquer stumbling blocks that will matter for years to come.

They are hidden figures only because they can't speak here for their "Kids First program" as minors…. however their pictures can speak a thousand words and you can see them on the website yourself on Kids First's website www.kidsfirst.ls and further on our Facebook page on the web.

Please look at the difference Kids First makes in those smiling faces and wants to continue to make not just at Hamlin, but this Fall at Plummer Elementary School.

Could you make a vital gift this week that can save this superior program and help us to protect our summer programming and so make sure that KFH find out how to renegotiate our Room 22 lease as a long term contributor that benefits our local public school.

Your gift will help us to find out the reasons for the drastic uptick in rent and these charges can be directly addressed towards a workable resolution.

In the meantime, first choice, you can call Mrs. Reichbach and give her a credit card donation that will save the program today or tomorrow by calling 818-517-3651 and use EIN 95-4849246, www.kidsfirst.la (call and either drop it off by arrangement today and tomorrow or tell us the amount you are giving, your name and we'll make sure your gift is received, counted and send an acknowledgement by email after June 5th).

You can PayPal it in to her or use a credit card tomorrow and Friday by noon.

For larger or longer term gifts, you can give a direct donation to New Education Options through the United Way as an appeal gift for the Fall: 229237 United Way No. Of Greater LA for Kids First at Hamlin as a Summer literacy program.  All Gifts are tax deductible. Please use this number as last resort because this takes several months to process and be received. You can also designate New Education Options/KidsFirst So Cal to fund the childcare program for Hamlin and Plummer through Fidelity Investments Donor Advised funds program or their partnered team.

You can match our rent dollars to turn around our crisis caused by the school or District demands and allow KFH's terrific programs and services to continue unabated.

Please consider this ask a plea for making 20 plus families happy, able to go to work, and enjoy the summer, able to give their kids a super experience with tutoring and enduring friends.
