Sasscer Hill, the hottest rave in the horse racing/mystery genre, has come out with her third novel in the highly popular Nikki Latrelle series, will participate in the South Carolina Book Festival May 18 & 19, 2013.

The Sea Horse Trade, which takes place mostly at Gulfstream Park track near Miami, combines a single mother's search for the daughter she gave up at birth, an international sex slave ring, a powerful Columbian drug lord, and the taming of a high-strung sometimes evil race horse bred to win.

Sasscer Hill will moderate the South Carolina Book Festival panel "Women Writers of Mystery," Saturday, May 18 at 3:20PM in Columbia, South Carolina. Author panelists are C. Hope Clark , Sue Duffy, Susan M. Boyer.

Sasscer Hill will also be on the South Carolina Book Festival "Mystery Panel," Sunday, May 19 at 2:20PM. Panelist authors: James M. Jackson, Sasscer Hill, Susan M. Boyer. The panel moderator is Paula Benson. For more information http://www.scbookfestival.org/index.php?c=home

Fans of Hill's first two novels will recognize many familiar characters in The Sea Horse Trade besides Latrelle but the location is in Florida where new personalities are introduced, such as the rugged-looking man with a dripping eye, a mystic who sees and knows more than she wants to, a handsome, sexy detective who's to die for, and an Asian thug who'll scare the daylights out of anyone.

The plot is centered on a tattoo of a sea horse that Nikki Latrelle sees on the arm of a girl shot dead before her very eyes. The mystique of the sea horse reappears several times, culminating with a dramatic appearance in the final chapter, in a way even the most perceptive reader would never predict.

"The sea horse is one of the most intriguing aquatic beings around, once you learn about this fascinating creature," says Hill. "My research turned up wonderful snippets that I was compelled to share with readers. Of course, I won't reveal the ending but am confident that is what readers will discuss with their friends who read The Sea Horse Trade."

Many Top Amazon reviewers have raved about the action packed book and offered high praise in mostly 4 & 5 star ratings including this from Lynne E. an Amazon top 31 reviewer, "THE SEA HORSE TRADE is a well-written, entertaining, fast-reading mystery" and this from another Top 100 reviewer aka 'Spudman' who said, "The Sea Horse Trade holds a reader's interest from starting gate to finish line with plenty of sharp curves and unsavory characters along the way."

Sasscer Hill is the granddaughter many times removed of Samuel Ogle, colonial governor of Maryland in the mid-1770s, who is credited with bringing horse racing to North America, staging the first English-style race at Annapolis, Maryland in 1745.

Hill has a rich pedigree in horse racing as an amateur steeplechase jockey, horse farm owner for more than 30 years, breeder and sometime trainer, who rode in fox hunts for 22 years. Among the thoroughbreds she bred and raised is For Love and Honor which won $418,000 in New York racing at Saratoga, Belmont and Aqueduct.

The author's love of horses, experience in steeplechase racing, knowledge of horses and writing style has prompted many book critics to compare Hill with the famous British horse racing mystery writer, Dick Francis.

Part of the tension in Hill's new novel was developed from real-life terror when a thug who'd been arrested seven times for assault with a deadly weapon stalked Hill and her husband over a three year period. Because of injuries from her career as a horsewoman, Hill has given up racing and raising horses and is now a fulltime author in Aiken, SC. Hill is also a citizen activist for the preservation of agricultural lands, wetlands, and historical sites.
