INDIANAPOLIS – Like others, the Society of Professional Journalists is awaiting the release of the U.S. intelligence report on the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

“We at SPJ will be watching closely to see if the U.S. intelligence report on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi is made public, what the report actually says and what the Biden administration does in response to demand accountability,” SPJ National President Matthew T. Hall said. “An attack on one journalist is an attack on all of us, and none should be papered over or forgotten.”

The Biden administration is set to make public, as early as next week, an unclassified summary of findings across the intelligence community, produced by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, concluding that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered Khashoggi’s killing, The Washington Post reports.

SPJ will continue to demand justice for Khashoggi, who was posthumously honored as an SPJ Fellow of the Society, SPJ highest professional honor. In 2018, SPJ sent a letter to the Trump White House expressing concern over the disappearance of Khashoggi and demanded that his killers be brought to justice.

SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to informing citizens; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists; and fights to protect First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.
