The Wednesday-afternoon farmers market in Georgetown’s Rose Park, which saw up to 700 shoppers in a single day during the summer, has been reconstituted into a Holiday Winter Market. Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. starting this Wednesday, Nov. 18. On the corner of 26^th and O Streets, the market will operate through Dec. 23.

“Many of our summer/fall vendors (Pizza, Fish, Taim, Olive Oil, Tea, etc.) are excited to participate,” wrote Gail Daubert, new president of Friends of Rose Park, the nonprofit that organizes the market. “Plus we have several new vendors set up and ready to go such as Tugooh Toys, The Dough Jar, and a few surprises. In light of the community demand for outdoor venues, we hope to bring fun to Georgetown — imagine shopping for your vegetables and fish and bread under sparkling holiday lights while humming along with holiday tunes and sipping hot chocolate and hot cider.” 

The daytime basketball courts and playground will be transformed with holiday lights, music and some heaters, according to plans. “We also want to facilitate fun social gatherings that will enhance the community involvement with parks and do so in a safe outdoor environment,” Daubert said. “Thanks to donations from Nancy Taylor Bubes and MC Dean Building Intelligence, we think we can create a wonderful outdoor holiday vibe that everyone will enjoy.”   

Vendors confirmed for this Wednesday’s market include Hot Cider Yes, Cipolla Rossa Pizzeria, Anchor Nursey with veggies and flowers, Pearl Fine Teas, Taim Falafel, Buttercream & Burrata, Nativo Condiments for spices, Almost Heavenly Christmas Trees with wreaths, Cannabreeze, Bun’d Up, Ella-Rue, Lobster Maine-ia, Turning the Page books and Vordonia Athenolia for olive oil. In addition, Georgetown Main Street will be sponsoring a community vendor on a weekly basis. 

Lights will be set up on Tuesday or Wednesday during the day. Urgent Care will also be set up at the market to provide PCR COVID-19 testing for anyone who wants it. “Simply walk up and present a photo ID and insurance card at the time of testing. No registration and no appointment is needed,” according to Friends of Rose Park. Testing is free for all individuals with insurance.
