Ready? Learn!!
I find that most people aren’t “prepared to learn.” Whether in a large meeting or one-on-one, they aren’t “warmed up.” (I love it when I say I’m ready to start and people run for the restrooms or to get coffee, or simply don’t stop their conversations, as though the plane won’t take off without them.) I begin group meetings with either an exercise immediately or a quick demonstration of something. For individual meetings I ask, “What are you major objectives for our time together?”
Ideally, you need to “warm up” before the meeting starts. Otherwise, you might just pull a muscle trying catch up.
