Imagine if you earned a dollar every time your daughter uttered the words “it’s not my fault!” If you’re like most parents I know, that kind of revenue stream would rival some of the world’s wealthiest corporations.

It’s easy to joke about kids constantly playing the blame game, but might there be a more serious issue at hand? So often when something “isn’t her fault”, your daughter is ignoring her own wrongdoings and instead focusing on the flaws in those around her. We know where that spirit of divisiveness comes from, and it’s certainly not from our loving God!

When we don’t hold our kids to an expectation of responsibility, we’re in turn raising a generation of adults who can’t be held accountable for their actions. So, next time she places the blame on someone else ask her: how could you have taken the responsibility to prevent or solve this problem?
