Until a few weeks ago, the United States government held the longstanding and reasonable policy that enabling terrorists, domestic abusers, and international crime rings to make their own undetectable guns with 3D printers posed a danger to national security and international peace.
On Friday, July 27th, using Orwellian, “Lies are Truth." logic, the Trump Administration announced that enabling international terrorists to download plans for, and then make, AR-15s and other guns “is in the interest of the security and foreign policy of the United States.." That’s nonsense...and even more dangerous policy.
The Brady Campaign was proud to stand with our colleagues in the gun violence prevention movement and fight till the end to stop the Trump Administration, filing a motion for an injunction along with Everytown for Gun Safety and Giffords, that our lawyers argued in Texas in the minutes before this dangerous policy went into effect. The judge denied our request, but that will not stop us from continuing to fight to prevent a guns-on-demand future in which even the most dangerous criminals and terrorists can arm themselves.
And, while we examine every legal angle, you’re asking, “What can I do?." Use your voice. Contact your representative and senators. Reach out to your state’s attorney general. Call and email Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and express your outrage.
