Plummeting Standards

There is a strong trend today to “lower the bar.” The post office can’t meet its commitment to provide box mail by 8 am, so instead of finding out why they can’t improve service, they change the commitment to 11 am. A woman on Linkedin suggests that instead of apologizing for the rudeness of being late, you say, “Thanks for waiting for me.” After the third time I’d say, “Thanks for removing your personal belongings and leaving the building.”

“Adapting” to change doesn’t mean lowering standards or expectations. It means viewing change as opportunity.

That’s up to you. And I don’t feel the need to say, “Thank you for listening.” That’s up to you, too.
