Pauraig and others are running to prevent distracted driving in honor of Conor
The Active.com site is announcing and registering (The Conor Lynch Foundation Annual In Honor of Conor Run" (aka the CLF 5 K Run) this Sunday, October, 29th, 2017.
"In the Spirit and Honor" of his family, friends, school, and community, U.S. driving culture's distracted driving epidemic ,evident in our Sherman Oaks by Conor's loss,
has got to stop. The Lynch family and friends have taken a stand.
The call is now, the run is Sunday.
We can all do something to save lives and refocus on safety. Sunday is the day. Join the run, walk, or observe and make a donation anyway.
You can join forces with the Foundation and friends to remediate this cyclical tragedy recognized now by this Fall's annual call to action. Such transformative recreation will raise funds and attention to what we can all do to save the needless loss of human life.
"Each day in the United States, approximately 9 people are killed and more than 1,000 injured in crashes that are reported that involve a distracted driver.1
Distracted driving is driving while doing another activity that takes your attention away from driving. Distracted driving can increase the chance of a motor vehicle crash.
There are three main types of distraction:
- Visual: taking your eyes off the road;
- Manual: taking your hands off the wheel; and
- Cognitive: taking your mind off of driving." CDC
However, all these collisions and fatalities are preventable. The power to stop this is in human hands.
The Foundation acts to educate and support new or existing programs that raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving and promote the safety of runners, pedestrians, cyclists and young drivers. The run is scheduled at Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Park in Sherman Oaks, CA 91423 at the Little League Field. Same day registration starts at 7 am., run/walk at 8:30, kids run at 9:30am.
Texting while driving can and does kill young drivers, pedestrians, pets, and innocent people. It impacts families, hurts property, and ruins lives. Distracted driving ended the short life of a Notre Dame High School Athlete. This Sunday morning join CLF and take up the mantle of this too soon lost runner and make peace with the moment by doing something to help your health and the greater health of our roads in the U.S. and the San Fernando Valley Community.
