Passing of former Director of City Delivery Dale Hart

Former NALC national officer Dale P. Hart died on Dec. 1. Hart was elected director of city delivery by acclamation at the 2006 Biennial Convention. Before that he had served three terms as national business agent (NBA) for Region 1.

Known as an intense and serious advocate of letter carrier rights, he began his postal career in 1966 following three years in the U.S. Army. He soon became chief steward of Burlingame, CA Branch 1767 and then elected president of the branch. When it merged with San Mateo Branch 1280, he became executive vice president of the merged branch.

By 1976, Hart also was on the executive board of the California State Association, where he remained for a decade. After serving as a local business agent, he was named a regional administrative assistant in 1987. He was first elected NBA in 1994.

After retiring as director of city delivery, Hart remained in Virginia until his death. He is survived by his son, Jeremy.

“Dale Hart was a tireless advocate for letter carriers’ rights, known for never backing down from a fight and always being ready to share his unique sense of humor,” NALC President Fredric Rolando said. “I appreciate his years of service and commitment to helping his brothers and sisters, and his friendship to me and so many others. On behalf of NALC, I send my condolences to his family and friends.”
