On the Move: Ironside Takes Top Comms Spot at MIT

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has named Alfred Ironside vice president for communications, effective Feb. 24. Ironside comes to MIT from the Ford Foundation, where he has served as vice president of global communications since 2014. He oversaw the foundation’s executive communications, messaging, strategic partnerships, and public affairs. Ironside was previously chief of media relations at UNICEF. “As MIT’s chief communications officer, Alfred will advise senior leaders across MIT and shape our overall communications strategy, including media relations, crisis communications, marketing and branding, as well as digital strategy and development,” said MIT president L. Rafael Reif.

London-based Madano has named Katy Compton-Bishop head of healthcare. Compton-Bishop joins the firm from MSL, where she served as senior director, health. She previously spent over a decade at Ruder Finn, most recently as head of healthcare, and has been PR director at Euro RSC Life. Compton-Bishop has worked with clients on professional and consumer media relations, as well as on thought leadership initiatives, advocacy development and issues management.

Johnson Controls has appointed Phil Clement global chief marketing officer. Clement was founder and managing partner at Chartwell Advisory Partners. He was previously global chief marketing and communications officer for Aon, with responsibility for developing the company’s global CRM systems, common sales processes and a single global brand. In his new post, he will be responsible for all global activities related to conceptualizing and implementing market strategy and demand generation. He reports to executive vice president and chief digital & customer officer Mike Ellis.
