New Image 25th Annual Children's Christmas - Event

The lines were long but orderly and well organized For the last quarter century, the New Image Emergency Shelter For The Homeless Inc., has sponsored their Annual Children’s Christmas Store. This event is a staple of anticipation every holiday season for children in need who otherwise would have no toys for Christmas. The location was the Long Beach Hilton Hotel.

The lines were long but orderly and the smiles of delight on the children’s faces said it all. There were tons of toys from everything electronic to stuffed animals, games, books, shoes, coats, and clothing

Of course the jolly fat man (Santa) was in tow to ho, ho, ho, along with a host of celebrities from the film, TV, music, political and business worlds.

This event was started by and is the brainchild of twin sisters Linda Moran and Brenda Wilson who saw the need and answered the call 25 years ago and have been going strong annually since. As Brenda put it, “This is an event that is centered around being able to make toys and to bring this season to children that are homeless and low income that normally would not have a Christmas. We allocate to 40 or 50 social service agencies a certain number of families so they can actually pull from each one of their caseloads to families who would not have a Christmas. This is a private event, so it is only open to them. The referrals come from the case managers so we can be sure that they do have a Christmas. Sister Linda adds, “They are the neediest of the needy. This is not a toy giveaway. They are per-qualified as she said.”

The New Image Emergency Shelter for the last 30 years have been providing services for homeless and low income clients. In that time period they have provided their services for more than 3.1 million homeless and low income populations. For the first 14 years, they were the largest providers of shelter in the State of California as well as a mired of other social service needs. The organization is accepting tax deductible donations for this upcoming Christmas event as well as their daily operations.
