Mother's Day 2020: Ideas For Last Minute Gifts, Zoom Brunches & Celebrating Under Social Distancing Restrictions

As social distancing restrictions continue in certain areas, many can't run out for last minute flowers this year or take Mom or Grandma out for supper. Instead, they'll have to think out-side-the-box—and into cyberspace—as gifts and experiences have become digitized.

For gifts for Mom ordered online, cozy homestyle selections were popular this year, like books, gardening kits, and cooking gear. Etsy, an online destination for small crafters, has seen an explosion of sales since March. In terms of Mother's Day, DIY knitting kits, at home spa experiences, and gardening kits were popular.

Concerned about the delivery not making it? Many local gift shops and bakeries are taking online orders and delivering or offering curbside pickup. Florists are accepting online orders too, as a nice fresh bouquet is sure to lighten her mood this somber spring. Then there are instant experience gifts available online, like a personalized message from a beloved celebrity, musician, or athlete from Cameo.com.

Instead of a live visit to Grandma or their aged mothers, many are planning to wave hello with a poster sign from the lawn or meet remotely via Zoom or Houseparty. Some will get brunch delivery from the same restaurant but sent to separate households, then enjoyed together online. Others will hold digital tea parties with Grandma.

Most of all, come next Sunday remember to let Mom sleep in and to pamper her in special ways. That way she'll also know that it's just not another day of social distancing, but her special day.
