An increasing number of insurance agents who specialize in long-term care insurance planning are expanding their product portfolio to include shorter duration policies reports the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI).

"It's a simple case of fulfilling need and market conditions," explains Jesse Slome, director of the AALTCI. "We are seeing sales growth as a significant number of individuals who want some long-term care protection can not health qualify or can't afford the cost of a traditional long-term care insurance policy.   There are viable options that more long-term care specialists are becoming familiar with."

Slome announced plans for a series of agent-focused training webinars that would focus on sharing planning strategies used by long-term care insurance specialists.  "We are seeing more long-term care insurance agents dipping their toes into alternative solutions," Slome explained.  "They are hesitant until they receive a warm reception from the individual who often has no other options.  We are going to share real examples taken from real specialists."

The webinar training series will be available to long-term care insurance specialists offered by the National Advisory Center for Short-Term Care Information.  This organization was established to create heightened awareness for the benefits of various short-term care insurance products and to support agents marketing these options to their clients.

"Short-term care insurance policies can be a highly affordable option and some policies are even available to individuals in their 80s," Slome adds.  "Some long-term care insurance policies can only be obtained up to age 75 and while STC policies are not available in all states, they are a very viable planning tool that more long-term care insurance agents need to know about."
