Pending Business: Yellow Lights Ahead. Radio sales pro Steve Lapa writes in today’s column that predictions for this year’s holiday season are that consumers will be cautious and not spend as much as in recent seasons due to economic uncertainty. At the same time, retailers are less focused on creative marketing and are targeting consumers shopping based solely on the best price. With that in mind, Lapa offers some suggestions for radio sellers in this “yellow-light” economy. Read it here.

Monday Memo: Yes, Oldies. With many FMs already in all-Christmas mode, consultant Holland Cooke frets that “you’d think the Beach Boys only had one hit.” In this week’s column, HC notes how TV commercials and movies “continue to demonstrate the appeal of 60s and 70s music that AM/FM radio has relinquished to satellite radio and streams.” Read more here.

I can’t wait to meet my new partner so we can inform, entertain, and bring a smile to WIOD’s loyal listeners and invite new ears to join the show, too.”
