Shiu's daughter not only illustrated all three books, but also took the cover photos which adorn each cover. Sydney Shiu, won a Mom's Choice Silver Award for "Young Contributor Illustrator." From now until May 31, 2017, 10% of each book will be donated to GirlsPACT a nonprofit dedicated to empowering and inspiring girls and young women to make sound, educated decisions with confidence and poise.
In addition to being an award-winning author, Ms. Shiu is also an intuitive healer who actually had an encounter with Moa, the ancient Hawaiian spirit at the heart of the series. "When I was five," Ms. Shiu explained, "I was visited by a vision. I'll never forget it, I was running down the stairs and the entity, a girl with dark hair, stopped me in my tracks." Ms. Shiu's experience with this benevolent spirit launched her into a personal journey of spiritual exploration which brought a deeper meaning to the entire Moa Series.
