The look of the Medicare eligible population will change in the coming decades offering challenges and opportunities explains the head of the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance.

"Although the older population is projected to increase among all racial and ethnic groups, the older Hispanic population is projected to grow the fastest," notes Jesse Slome, director of the Medicare Supplement insurance organization.  "In 2018, 77 percent of the population was non-Hispanic White alone. By 2060, it is projected that this will change to 55 percent."

The Association director shared the information as part of his look forward for the Medicare insurance industry. "The growth of Medicare eligibles is only going to continue growing offering enormous opportunities for insurance agents and a chance to get newer younger agents who will successfully focus on the diverse markets going forward."

In 2020 one in six Americans is age 65 and over according to Slome.  "The Census data projects the number will rise to one in five as soon as 2030.  By 2060, projections call for nearly 100 million Americans over age 65."

The organization was encouraging more insurance agencies and companies to focus on diversity markets.  "There's enormous opportunities for Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement as well as Medicare Prescription Drug Plans.

Slome shared with the agents seeing an increase in consumers utilizing the organization's online directory of Medicare agents.  "The current Medicare Annual Enrollment Period is always a key time when consumers look for a local insurance agent.  If you are multi-lingual, this is something you can and probably should mention as part of your listing," he advised.
