Fathers Building Futures casketsHow can you make your funeral and final arrangements more eco-friendly? There are more ways than you may realize. Take a death positive approach and learn what you need to know before you go!

If you live in the Denver area, on March 9, come hear Certified Thanatologist Gail Rubin speak on Going Green: New Trends in Death Care.

The modern funeral is changing. When you learn about new death care trends in the United States, you'll say, "We can do that?" Gail will use film clips to illustrate issues regarding green burial, embalming, cremation, alkaline hydrolysis, other developing body disposition methods, and DIY/home funerals.

The talk is sponsored by Heflebower Funeral & Cremation Services of Highlands Ranch and Seven Stones Botanical Garden Cemetery in Littleton.

There's also a feel-good story associated with this talk. Fathers Building Futures (FBF) is an Albuquerque nonprofit that provides jobs and skills to previously incarcerated parents. The goal is to keep these folks from returning to jail. Unemployment is the #1 reason for recidivism.

One FBF training program involves woodworking. In their workshop, they make caskets and urns, as well as cutting boards, lazy Susans and keepsake boxes. Their affordable plain pine boxes and urns of other woods are available to the funeral industry and the general public. A casket built by Fathers Building Futures will be on display at the talk.
