In a recent interview with Vogue magazine about her husband?s affair, Jenny Sanford confessed that she and a friend couldn?t resist Googling Maria Belen Chapur, to find out what her husband?s mistress looked like.

Houston says, ?Most wives and girlfriends have a natural curiosity about the woman their husband or boyfriend is seeing behind their back. What does she look like? Is she prettier? Smarter? Sexier? These are things almost every woman wants to know. And there?s nothing wrong with this, as long as healthy curiosity doesn?t turn into an obsession.?

Wives of Cheating Politicians Have an Advantage

Houston, who is frequently called on by the media to comment on infidelity issues in the news says, ?Politician?s wives, like Jenny Sanford, and betrayed wives of other prominent men have a definite advantage when it comes to gathering information about the Other Woman.?

?The media will usually do all the investigative work,? says Houston, ?including finding out the name and age of the mistress, her marital status, where she lives and works, when the affair began and how long it?s been going on, where and how often they met, what type of person she is, and other details about the affair. If there?s any aspect of the affair the wife is curious about about, the media will usually fill in the blanks.?.

?But the average wife with a cheating husband usually has to do some digging just to find out who the mistress is, along with a few other basic facts.? says Houston. ?Online services can provide affordable help. A reverse phone search or an e-mail address search can identify the mistress by name. An online background check will provide additional details about practically anything else the cheater?s wife or girlfriend wants to know.?

What a Wife Should Know About the Mistress

?I always advise women to run an online background check if they know the Other Woman?s name. ? says Houston, ?because there are some things a wife or girlfriend needs to know. What kind of person is her husband or boyfriend dealing with? Her safety and well-being, and that of her family could be at stake. ?

?Is the mistress violent, or aggressive like Joey Buttafuco?s teenage mistress, Amy Fisher, who shot Joey?s wife, Mary Jo Buttafuoco in the head? ? ?Is she mentally unstable or emotionally fragile like Steve McNair?s mistress Sahel Kazemi, who shot and killed Steve, then turned the gun on herself??

Says Houston, ?There are cases where a mistress has stalked, threatened, harassed or even attacked her lover or his family, during, or long after he ends the affair. Sometimes protective measures need to be put in place.?
