Lifesaving Resources to conduct Water Rescue Review for First Responders

Lifesaving Resources will be conducting a 1-day training program for First Responders on Flood, Swiftwater and Surf Rescue on Saturday, June 24, from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

This one day training program (Saturday, June 24) is designed to provide First Responders with a review of critical swiftwater and surf rescue skills. This is a non-certified program that includes two 3.5-hour practical sessions - one conducted in a moving water (river) environment, and the second conducted in a surf (ocean) environment.

The river session (08:00 AM - 11:30 AM) will include the following skills:

  • shore-based non-swimming rescues (extension and throwing rescues)

  • rigging and line management

  • live-bait swimming rescues

  • management of aquatic spinal injuries in moving water

  • non-motorized boat operations and rescue

The ocean session (12:30 PM - 4:00 PM) will include the following skills:

  • live-bait swimming rescues

  • management of aquatic spinal juries in the surf

  • Jetty Jump

  • non-motorized boat operations and rescue

  • emergency response drill

This will be the first annual review course, and is open to all First Responders. There are no pre- requisites other than the participant must be authorized by his/her department's Chief or Training Officer; must be in good physical condition; and must be comfortable in deep water while wearing a Type V Rescue Lifejacket. Helmets and lifejackets will be provided by Lifesaving Resources, or the participant may supply his/her own. Participants must have a wetsuit or dry suit, rigid-sole booties or tennis shoes, and gloves for use in the water. 

The river session will be conducted in the Saco River (Water Street) in Saco (Maine), while the ocean session will be conducted at Colony Beach (Ocean Ave.) in Kennebunkport (Maine).

Tuition: $35 per person.
