Kayne West's statements and behavior have been, well controversial, to say the least. He once called slavery "a choice." He is undeniably a creative genius, who is also famous for his braggadocio and odd view of world.
He recently characterized his bipolar diaorder as "not a disabilty, but a superpower." He's half right.
What if those of us diagnosed with mental illness are not living with a genetic mutation, but in fact an amazing evolutionary adaptation?
What is a mental illness, as Malcolm Gladwell says in his book, "David and Goliath," is in fact a "desirable disadvantage?"
If that is the case, is what we commonly think of as mental illness, is not in fact simply a mental disability, but an extraordinary combination of mental illness, and mental able-ness?
And if that is true, what if we treated the mental illness with medication and therapy, and embraced, energized, and celebrated the mental-ableness?
