Back to School with Movement and Personality, Nature, Nurture, and Science.

As part of the Fall academic year, elementary children at Liggett, Plummer, and at the new Woodland Hills site are learning how to succeed at school through ecology (learning about their home) and those housed at the gym, their bodies. Kids First So Cal is opening today at its gorgeous new classroom in Woodland Hills. You are invited to head to the Tae Bo Nation site in Woodland Hills and workout to celebrate working by with Billy Blanks and his trainers today.  Providing mind-body-spirit-health integration within academics and child development on site at THE BILLY BLANKS SWEAT CLUB 1-4:30 pm today Sunday, October 21st at the site of the former "ciara dance studio" 21250 Califa St. Ste 105 a, 818-888.7744, adjacent or street parking, you can join New Education Options, Kids First, the TaeBo Nation and all comers in dedicating the space to new generations young and old of learners. Find out about Academic Enrichment, Tutoring, and STEM/STEAM R is for River for your child this year or in the near future.  You can enroll in the Fall, Winter Break or Thanksgiving programs now.

In Sherman Oaks and Panorama City, New Education Options (nonprofit sponsoring Kids First and using NASA citizen science protocols) began introducing 2nd and 3rd graders this week to new vocabulary and core study concepts.  It anchored "Big Shakeout" earthquak-prep teaching on campus  with reinforcement through its own unique offering of combining the power of movement and sound.  Words "stop, drop, cover and hold" were part of an Earth Sciences, Social Studies, and Culture concept revealed through subject integration curricula and state researched content focused on English and Math acceleration.

During the week, Administrator Joi Staves, at the Church of the Chimes helped NEO out by modeling how one can teach families about science, autonomy and stewardship.  The aka "Burl Gurl's" measured the trees and made primative baseline calculations in an informal science journal.

The scientific duo included Neo's educator/director Bo Lebo with Ms. Staves acting in order to join the District's burgeoning community science activities in the older grades in ESC NW or Supervisoral District and City District 3.  They took their first Tree Campaign actions to protect and discover the property's 3 Redwoods at the Church of the Chimes property just a few days before their Saturday rummage sale.

The previous weekend their Festival featured First Kids First So Cal materials now on display in the Hamilton parlor on a featured easel looking for NEO volunteers to work with the GLOBE Trees Around the GLOBE campaign on the property throughout the next two years or to learn the protocol and bring to other neighborhoods and classrooms.

Whether an invite to today's workout in Woodland Hills or an ongoing invite to bring GLOBE to elementary schools, they anchored NEO's STEM community goals to both fill childcare seats at Califa and selected school participating sites and raise both capital.  With a bigger board, some donations, and building an endowment, it will be able to create jobs, publish, develop its curriculum, and simultaneously build science literacy between church goers, locals, adjacent schools and businesses. Yahoo!

By helping a general baseline about these three trees (aka Hazel, Fellow, and Scout), Joi and Bo, with the help of the Church of the Chimes Board, envision an expanding band of citizens, students, teachers, and parents coming on property to use GLOBE observer apps,   They will learn about informal and formal science and get into both focus and groove by exercising their smart equipment, their bodies and  their phones in actively solving problems created by the drought.  With digitals tools in an active learning community, whether at Burbank and Hazeltine , or online with redwoods that also need human support, they will eventually dialogue with Robbie Breadon's Common Ground farm in Five Mile Town, Fermanagh, North Ireland and with projects in Alaska, Hawaii, and France.

While elementary students were measuring, planning for solutions this Thursday singing about earthquakes, Denise Ovaldsen, director of the Celtic Arts Center and Ms. Lebo were looking at songs, dances, stories, and activities that can involve North Hollywood, Burbank, and surrounding areas this Halloween.

Join the ultimate workout this afternoon, October 21st, this Sunday at the Billy Blanks Sweat Club and class studio with Billy, obviously the fun and discovery has just begun.

Find out about the Califa Site to enroll your K-5 children at 1-1:15pm today with Ms Lynda.  Newcomers will receive a 10% discount on joining the studio.  Childcare resource center eligible parents can talk to Ms. Reichbach about childcare subsidies.  Get Kids First year round calendar or consider enrolling today.
