Susan Eisen, author of Crazy About Jewelry!® An Expert Guide to Buying, Selling, and Caring for Your Jewelry, CEO, and chief designer of Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry & Watches in El Paso, Texas, has authored a brochure entitled Soldier Beware: A Guide for the Military Being Deployed, to assist the military in becoming better jewelry consumers while serving their country. As a jewelry expert and a retailer in El Paso of gems and watches for 30 years, she explains key issues soldiers need to know about when shopping overseas for jewelry and watches.

"Being a knowledgeable consumer is the best way to ensure you get the best value when buying gems and jewelry overseas," says Ms. Eisen, who is a Master Gemologist Appraiser® of the American Society of Appraisers, a title held by only 4 other people in Texas and only 44 in the United States. Her experience comes from dealing with many soldiers stationed in her city and local military base, Ft. Bliss, who come to her for appraisals on gems, jewelry, and watches they purchased overseas. "I want to be sure they use their hard earned money to their best advantage," she said when discussing her new brochure and website that soldiers can visit at www.soldierbeware.com and ask questions from overseas so vendors cannot misrepresent to them. Ms. Eisen's aim is to maintain the integrity of reputable jewelry dealers by educating consumers about how best to spend their money when it comes to jewelry and watches. Her brochure was written to alert soldiers being deployed to Afghanistan to be careful when they buy jewelry, gemstones, and watches.

Susan Eisen is the President and Chief Designer at Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry & Watches, graduate gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America, Certified Gemologist Appraiser with the American Gem Society, and certified member of the International Society of Appraisers. An El Paso native, she founded her first store in 1980 and is now located at 5857 North Mesa and does custom jewelry designing, repairs, and jewelry and fine art appraising. In 2007, Ms. Eisen authored and published her first jewelry book, entitled Crazy About Jewelry!® An Expert Guide to Buying, Selling, and Caring for Your Jewelry and is currently working on her second book.
