International Coach Federation Opens Registration for ICF Advance 2013: Cultural Competency

International Coach Federation Opens Registration for ICF Advance 2013: Cultural Competency
Inaugural ICF educational event will provide a robust, interactive learning experience for professional coaches seeking to increase their cultural competency.

Lexington, Kentucky, USA?Registration for ICF Advance 2013: Cultural Competency is now open to the public. This inaugural International Coach Federation educational event will take place Oct. 25-26, 2013, at the Hilton Washington Dulles, Washington, D.C. ?The need for cultural competence in professional coaching is real and growing. ICF Advance 2013 demonstrates our organization?s recognition of the importance of cultural competency and its role in the work we do with clients,? said ICF Global past president and Professional Certified Coach Ed Modell, who is co-leader of ICF?s Cultural Competency Initiative with ICF Master Certified Coach Marilyn O?Hearne. ?I am hopeful that this innovative event will produce new knowledge and greater understanding, as well as planting the seeds for research and pilot projects that will advance diversity, inclusion and cultural acceptance.?

Through Sept. 15, 2013, ICF is offering a discounted early-bird registration rate of $775 for ICF Members and $940 for non-members. After Sept. 15, the registration rate will be $940 for ICF Members and $1,130 for non-members. Registration fees include attendance to all educational programs, evening receptions (cash bars), continental breakfasts, luncheons and beverage breaks. Attendance for ICF Advance 2013 is limited to 150 people; registration is based on a first-registered, confirmed basis.

ICF Advance events are designed for professional coaches who want to take their skills and knowledge to the next level. ICF Advance 2013: Cultural Competency is a robust, interactive, two-day learning experience that will serve as a springboard for building coaches? cultural awareness, increasing their cultural competency and empowering them to promote cultural competency in the professional coaching community.

?This event celebrates a culmination of years of discussions and work in the realm of cultural competency. I am thrilled that the ICF has chosen cultural competency as the focus of its first targeted event,? said O?Hearne.

ICF Advance 2013 presenters will include:

  • Ruth King and Paolo Nagari, whose Provocateur Presentations on harnessing the value-generating potential of similarities and differences will be integrated throughout the two-day-event.
  • ICF Master Certified Coach Karen Curnow, who will moderate a panel on cultural competence in graduate education and coach training featuring ICF Master Certified Coach Virginia Kellogg, Dr. Terrence E. Maltbia, ICF Associate Certified Coach Norma Nielsen, ICF Professional Certified Coach Kyoko Seki and Dina Zavrski-Makeric.
  • ICF Master Certified Coach Philippe Rosinski and ICF Professional Certified Coach Kim Fowler, who will demonstrate examples of masterful, culturally competent coaching.
  • Dr. David Dinwoodie and Dr. Rosa Belzer, who will present a case study based on their experiences building a diverse coaching team in Latin America.
  • Barrie Zucal, who will present a case study highlighting the challenges of providing culturally competent coaching within an organization.
  • Jonelle Naude, who will introduce South Africa?s No-Name Initiative as an example of culturally competent practice with broad-reaching impacts.
  • Howard Ross, who will speak about transforming organizational diversity initiatives.
  • ICF Master Certified Coach Elena Espinal, who will explore the role of context in culturally competent coaching.
  • Dr. Katherine Holt and ICF Professional Certified Coach Kyoko Seki, who will introduce an ontological approach to culturally competent coaching practice.
  • ICF Associate Certified Coaches John Honor and Dr. Linda Page, who will lead a discussion facilitated by Ed Modell about developing cultural competence research and pilot projects that will benefit the professional coaching community.

In preparation for ICF Advance, ICF Global will host two pre-event webinars on Sept. 10, 2013, and Oct. 10, 2013. Webinar registration is free and open to everyone, regardless of ICF Advance enrollment.
