Choosing a color for your bathroom can be difficult. It is also the most intimate room of the home. It's where you get ready for the day. It's where busy moms hide for a minute of privacy. It's where you relax in a warm bath at the end of the day and wash away your worries.

I love doing bathrooms because it's often where people are a little more adventurous and we get to be more creative and find those special personal touches. As The Color Whisperer, I love to work with color but in the bathroom, I am more likely to do a neutral. Neutral doesn't just mean white or beige or grey, it also includes a myriad of other colors like blues, greens, and earth colors.

The bathroom has one thing to be mindful of that you want to make sure you consider when choosing a color. The bathroom is usually where you put on makeup and it's important that the colors of the wall don't reflect a color that will lead to poor application. I am all for using color in the tile, shower curtains, etc, but the paint color should reflect you.

We all have an undertone in our skin, it may be pink, olive, blue, gold, or purple. That's the color you want to base your bathroom color around. That way when you put on makeup, it will work with you.

If your undertones are pink, you will want to use colors that have a pink undertone. Of course you can do pink, but beige, cream, and white are also good. Even complementary colors of pastel blues and greens could be good. Keep it light and fun for a bright start to your day.

If you have an olive undertone using green neutrals, gray greens, beige green, and sage green. You can also mix in some yellows and even oranges. Lots of texture is important for this bathroom. Leaves and earthy accents will energize and inspire you in this room.

Blue undertones tend to like things bold and have high contrast. I would be less likely to do neutrals in this bathroom, but Instead, use colors that complement blue. Bold blues, greens, golds, possibly even orange are great for this skin type. Accent with bold contrasting colors and you will feel like a queen.

Gold tones are going to love yellows, golds, orange, possibly some green or teal. Lots of texture is good and adds some earth colors in your accessories. Have some accents with a little bit of whimsy here and you will start every day with a smile.

Purple undertones are soft and they love grey. This is a great opportunity to use some purple grey neutrals, some blue-grey neutrals. This skin type likes soft, feminine, and subtle. This is your place to relax and rejuvenate so that a spa-like atmosphere is important.

Taking this extra step in figuring out the best color for you is worth it. When you find the right color you will start the day feeling prettier and that will have an impact on the rest of the day. If you don't wear makeup, this is still going to put you in a good mood for the day. This is where you start your day and get ready. The image you see in the mirror when you say, "I am ready for the world" is the image you carry in your head all day and affects how you approach your tasks for the day.
