According to Dr. David Hanscom, former spine surgeon and author of Back in Control: A Spine Surgeon's Road Out of Chronic Pain, chronic pain can kill. Pain can make life so miserable some may accept a fate of debilitating, never-ending pain and stress while others resort to drastic yet unnecessary measures in a bid for pain relief. Either can approach can create a domino effect that devastates overall health.

Jesse Cannone, author of The 7-Day Back Pain Cure and co-founder of The Healthy Back Institute®, recently interviewed Dr. Hanscom about his road to respected surgeon, burnout and eventual recovery, and his new mission of promoting more effective and safer solutions for chronic pain than surgery whenever possible.

During the interview, Dr. Hanscom and Jesse discuss how the key to recovery from chronic pain often lies in identifying various types of underlying anxiety. Emotional stressors like anxiety, worry, frustration and anger trigger physical changes which often manifest as physical pain and other symptoms. Migraines, swollen feet, joint pain and other maladies can often benefit from the various stress-relieving approaches discussed during the interview excerpts below.
