Too often do we find people who have spent thousands of dollars on a home makeover while never thinking about the essential structural or systems repairs which can make or break a home. That is not to say that cosmetic repairs are not important, but a sound structure is best when it’s built from the inside out. Here are a few home repairs you need to perform before they become worse.

Home Inspection Issues to Fix

Roofing Issues:

  • A moldy roof is a sign that water has penetrated your roof and is potentially rotting the foundation.
  • Moisture around a skylight could be a sign of improperly installed roofing shingles.
  • Missing, curling, or cracked shingles are a sign of a roof that is past its prime. At this point, it’s recommended that you replace the entire roof as worn shingles can lead to further complications.

Electrical Issues:

  • Outlets that are hot to the touch are hazardous and an indication that your wiring is aged.
  • Blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers tell you that your electrical system is incapable of handling your energy demands.

Plumbing

  • Noisy pipes indicate that there is too much water pressure or that your pipes are too small. Either can cause your pipes to leak or rupture.
  • Rusty pipes and water stains are signs that they have been leaking for some time.
  • If there are leaks around the base of the toilet, it’s a sign that the wax seal has been compromised, which can cause your floor to rot.

Your home is a sanctuary that must be kept safe. These tips can help you protect your house, but you’ll need a final line of defense: your insurance.
