Attract the Right Job or Clientele:
Note: Enjoy today’s Infographic is provided by Miles Smith, Initiative-One.
Beneath you will find further explanation for what comprises great leadership.
The inspirational speaker and author Simon Sinek said that people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. That’s good advice. Because if people (employees, colleagues, customers) are going to listen to, believe in, and buy into what you’re saying, they need to be inspired.
So how do you become that kind of inspirational leader? Is it just something you’re born with, or is it something you can develop?
It’s probably no surprise that it’s a little of column A, a bit of column B. Actually, a lot more of column B.
Some research shows that leadership is a skill that’s only 24 percent genetic, but 76 percent learned.
Yes, it helps to have natural leadership abilities. But the vast majority of inspirational leadership is defined more by what you do than by innate ability. If inspirational leadership is something you can learn, then it pays to look at some of the learnable traits top inspirational leaders exhibit.
Here are seven traits that commonly show up ineffective leaders:
- They are authentic and trustworthy
- They radiate positive energy
- They listen deeply
- They are self-aware and in tune with others’ feelings
- They take the time to recharge their own batteries regularly
- They stay centered
- They clearly articulate their vision and values
That last trait is worth spending a little time on. Because it brings us back to where we started, with the importance of beginning with “why.."
Inspirational leaders know their purpose.
They’re driven by a vision and core values. They care about a “why." that’s bigger and more meaningful than the details and mechanics of merely what you do or how you do it. And when they let that purpose take the lead, that’s how they inspire others to action.
