Here’s today’s spoonful of courage. You know you may have noticed that I’m
00:00:09
always wearing a surgical hat. It’s actually a do-rag that I use. I want to give you one reason why I do this.
00:00:15
Especially with the COVID crisis, I’ve been getting my haircuts at home and my 12 year old son.
00:00:21
Charlie has been cutting my hair> You may notice it’s uneven and there’s some
00:00:26
patches that are exposed. And it’s kind of all over the place. If you think my haircut’s bad I want to tell
00:00:32
you a story about Charlie when he was mowing the yard. He just started to learn how to mow the yard we have a riding
00:00:37
mower. Last summer Charlie was zigzagging all over the place doing
00:00:41
figure of eights in the yard. Cutting the grass and

00:00:46
watching it made me more and more frustrated as I realized that I was gonna have to come and
00:00:50
and clean up uh after his mess. I was uh tempted to come down on Charlie and really
00:00:58
kind of beat him over the head and get him to go back and mow the grass. Do the right thing!
00:01:03
As I began to think about the situation, I realized that Charlie was just like any 12 year old boy. He was just having
00:01:08
fun doing wheelies on the riding lawn mower. I wonder sometimes if our heavenly Father doesn’t
00:01:15
see us that way. Often He sees the things that we’re doing and sees those
00:01:19
patches–those holes that we have as we in our own strength–when we try to cut the grass in our own power.
00:01:28
And often, God as our heavenly Father comes in and makes up the difference. He makes up
00:01:34
for our inadequacies. That’s what the Bible calls grace. Isn’t interesting if you read each one of
00:01:39
Paul’s epistles at the end there’s always some mention of grace. “Grace be
00:01:44
with you all.” Grace is even more than just our salvation of God making up the
00:01:50
difference for us morally when we don’t measure up to his perfect standard God empowers. He strengthens.
00:01:57
He illuminates. He equips us to do the things that He calls
00:02:05
us to do. His grace makes up the difference.
