Earth Day may only be one day each year, but here at the Ad Council we try to be conscious of our planet every day. Check out just some of the ways we have tried to reduce our waste and save energy around our office. Let us know in the comments if you have any tips for going green!
Compost Bins
In each of our kitchens, we have a compost bin for employees to discard their compostable waste. Composting helps embrace the natural cycle of life and decay. We also use compostable coffee pods to reduce our waste.
Technology Trash Bins
There are a lot of both valuable and toxic materials in technology trash. It is important to reuse and recycle these items rather than mixing them with your regular trash
Business Casual Attire
Here at the office, we generally dress in business casual attire. This means our employees have less clothing to dry clean, which is not only better for the environment, but is also better for our personal health and finances.
Reusable Coffee Mugs and Glasses
Instead of providing paper cups, Ad Council uses reusable mugs and glasses to contribute less trash to our landfills.
Lighting
At the office, we use fluorescent lighting to conserve energy. We also have reminders posted on all light switches to help employees remember to turn off the lights in rooms when they’re not being used.
Dishwasher + Dish Towels
We have installed new ENERGY STAR certified dishwashers which use less than half as much energy as washing dishes by hand and save more than 5,000 gallons of water each year. Additionally, to use less paper towels when washing our hands in our kitchens, an Ad Council employee is responsible for bringing in clean reusable cloth towels each week.
Filtered Water Dispensers
We also use filtered water dispensers to discourage employees from drinking bottled water at the office.
