Georgetown parks, churchyards and commercial blocks will be aglow with original artwork every night from 5 to 10 p.m. between Friday, Dec. 6, and Sunday, Jan. 5, during the sixth edition of “Georgetown Glow.”

“Glow” begins on Dec. 6 with the Grace Street Collective Holiday Party, offering s’mores, music and a pig roast from 4 to 8:30 p.m. The free event, in the Sweetgreen lot next to Dog Tag Bakery at 3206 Grace St. NW, is hosted by Grace Street Collective and Thyme Holdings.

Eleven original, commissioned light-art installations — positioned at Washington Harbour, in Georgetown Waterfront Park, along the C&O Canal and up Wisconsin Avenue to Book Hill — will feature a variety of imaginative images, from illuminated figures trudging up a hill to a large heron to nine benches lit from within.

The artists selected this year include two each from Washington, D.C., Arizona, New York City and the Netherlands, as well as one each from Boston, New Orleans and Korea.

“The BID started ‘Glow’ in 2014 to provide a unique holiday season experience, inviting Georgetown visitors to reimagine the season of light,” said Nancy Miyahira, vice president and marketing director of the Georgetown Business Improvement District. “We’re very excited to see how it’s grown to become a winter tradition in our region.”

Several local companies are offering more than 30 “Glow”-inspired walking tours, tying the exhibition to history, food, photography and art themes, according to the BID.
