In a byline article for a magazine published by the National Association of REALTORS®, crisis management expert and author Edward Segal shares his insights and advice on how leaders of organizations can manage a variety of crisis situations. The article is now available online at https://www.nar.realtor/realtor-ae-magazine/how-to-steer-your-association-through-a-crisis. Though written for the real estate industry, Segal said the advice applies to associations and organizations that represent any profession or industry.
Segal notes in the article that, "Your next association crisis could come from anywhere—human resources, IT, legal, advocacy—and involve anyone—leaders, members, the media, the public. In the blink of an eye your association's image, reputation, and credibility, and even your career, can be damaged."
"How to Steer Your Association Through a Crisis" appears in the Winter 2020 issue of REALTOR® AE Magazine. The feature story is based on Segal's experience as the CEO of two REALTOR® associations — the Marin Association of REALTORS® in Northern California and the Greater Los Angeles REALTORS® Association.
Segal is the author of the forthcoming book on crisis management: Crisis Ready — 101 Ways to Prepare for and Bounce Back from Disasters, Scandals, and Other Emergencies (Nicholas Brealey/Hachette).
