More than eight inches of snow fell on Washington, D.C., beginning early on Jan. 6, a day when Congress certified the election of Donald Trump as 47th President of the United States. The day off for businesses and schools was a quiet contrast to the day four years ago, when the U.S. Capitol riot occurred.

Neighborhoods like Georgetown were left to those walking to coffee spots and restaurants, as dogs and children played in the snow.

As the Washington Post reported, “Express forecast: Today: Snow and sleet, varying in intensity. Highs: 25 to 30. | Tonight: Snow tapers off around midnight. Lows: Near 20. | Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, blustery. Highs: 26 to 31.”

More snow is expected in the next few hours.
