Los Angeles, CA August 2006 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Back to school used to be the talk of the year. Now, it's Back to Work. While health, beauty and lifestyle industries may find this happening much sooner than anticipated celebrity hair stylist Billy Lowe gives us the "Lowe-Down" on how to keep clients, customers and co-workers safe during this uncertain return.

 

BACK TO WORK CLIENT AND EMPLOYEE SAFETY TIPS:
1. Avoid facing clients toward one another during salon services.  Salon chair pivot so beauty experts should be cautious NOT to direct their clients toward another client during services.  Consider a salon/spa reconfiguration where clients are not facing one another nor too close. 

 

2 When shampooing, drape a light cotton towel or cloth over client's face. This helps protect the client as well as others, and prevents face from getting wet during shampoo services.  Fold towel in half and place over eye area.    Then fold the two sides down over the cheek and mouth area (leaving "T section" in place over eye area).   Think of folding a paper air plane.   

 

3. Avoid overbooking/concentrating chemical Services (and all clientele)  at one time. 

 

4.  Be sure salon is well ventilated (ideally in and out air passage - as in front/back doors open for fresh air).

 

5. INSIST THAT ILL FEELING CLIENTS STAY HOME.  Dont be afraid to ASK QUESTIONS.  LET CLIENTS KNOW ASKING HEALTH  QUESTIONS IS A CONVERSATION NOT A CONFRONTATION.

 

6.  Stock all areas with complimentary wipes and hand sanitizer.  Make hourly announcements (similar to larger retailers) encouraging clients and staff to monitor sanitation and hygiene. 

 

7.  HAVE FUN WITH FACE MASKS.   Fabric Fabric Fabric.    Now is a great time to get creative AND build upon retail sales. 

 

8.  IF YOU ARE SERVING OR CONTINUING SERVICE OF COFFEES, TEAS, ETC,,,,, be sure these are properly monitored and staffed.  Do not allow client cups, water bottles, paper wrappers to build up in working areas or waiting areas.

 

9.  Continue to work with your local leaders regarding check-out areas, clients congregating, etc and best practices for your businesses.  
 
10. As weather permits, establish a client processing area outside. This reduces congestion in the salon or spa. If you are a fitness facility, work with clients on independent training routines at the gym, (building and demonstrating what they may do on their own at home anyway).
