Drafted and Shafted: Memoirs of an Army Psychiatrist is available on Amazon

Seemingly a master of all genres, Dr. Edward Ritvo's latest book is a memoir about the realistic and humorous life of a draftee serving as a psychiatrist in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

Dr. Ritvo, professor emeritus UCLA Medical School, has written scholarly books about autism and child development including his hallmark works "Understanding the Nature of Autism and Asperger's Disorder: Forty Years of Clinical Practice and Pioneering Research, followed by a children's story entitled "Sleep Time Stories: The Adventures of Pee Wee."

And now Dr. Ritvo has released a highly readable and very funny account of his life as a draftee, Drafted and Shafted: Memoirs of an Army Psychiatrist (ISBN-13: 978-1494787271, Create Space, 2014, 164 pages, $9.14 available on Amazon). http://tinyurl.com/drafted-Shafted" http://tinyurl.com/drafted-Shafted

Born in Boston, Ritvo had never been west of New England, when he was drafted during the Korean War and shipped off to serve at the Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, to serve as an Army psychiatrist.

Although he served as a captain in the medical corps, Ritvo's experiences as in the Army is very similar to any other draftee uprooted from the comfort of home to serve two years in military life. Veterans will identify with the tales told in Drafted and Shafted and will laugh along with the author about his funny experiences. But non-veterans also will appreciate the humor, warmth, and moving stories Dr. Ritvo shares in his latest book.

Some of the chapts all readers will enjoy include: "Making Chicken Soup, Maybe," "Eight Air Force Generals Can't be Wrong," "One Quickie Discharge, Coming Right Up," "Fun With The MPs," and "That Old Fart Couldn't Sell Shit To A Manure Factory."

Dr. Ritvo's highly acclaimed Understanding the Nature of Autism and Asperger's Disorder was published in 2006 and Sleep Time Stories was published in 2013.
