This Pearls Before Swine cartoon has Pig and Rat pondering mortality again. Pig asks, “What do think it’s like when you’re dead?” Rat sagely replies, “Like being asleep, except you don’t have to pee in the middle of the night.”

“So that’s why they call it Paradise,” says Pig. “Correct. And no making the bed,” observes Rat.

Thanatos is the Greek demigod who represents a good death. His twin brother is Hypnos, who represents sleep. So, sleep and a good death are closely related.

Not having to get up to pee in the middle of the night is quite a blessing!
