Could You Return, Your Majesty?
In the US, our “lawmakers” can’t seem to figure out a way to keep the government open, and if TSA launches a wildcat strike, the air traffic system will be shut down. Think of the medical treatments, weddings, family reunions, and business deals that will be missed and ruined.
In the UK, Brexit is in Neverneverland, no one knows what’s going to happen, and the opportunity for chaos is vast. Businesses may well fail. The prime minister suffered the greatest landslide defeat on the issue in modern British history.
In France, people are burning vehicles in the streets in protest to the president’s economic policies and he seems tone-deaf to the issues.
Perhaps you feel these are the inevitable products of democracy. What I recall is Lincoln Steffens and his observation: “If we had had good kinds, we’d all still be monarchists.”
