“Cold calling” for high value/high fee professional services doesn’t work. This is a relationship business. Asking me for business on Linkedin, sending me an instagram, or emailing me out of the blue just tells me you’re desperate and you don’t know how to market and don’t have a sufficient business base to generate referrals.
One outraged guy I turned down told me he thought a “peer” on Linkedin would be willing to do business. I told him that our both being on Linkedin didn’t make us peers any more than both of us owning cars or reading the
Wall Street Journal (which I doubt he did in any case).
If you don’t know how to market intelligently, why should I think you know how conduct business with a client intelligently?
