Cheaters are using the Super Bowl game as an aid to infidelity, according to infidelity expert Ruth Houston, who has interviewed literally thousands of cheaters and infidelity victims over the past 20+ years.
"Cheating husbands and boyfriends sometimes use the "Super Bowl alibi" to cover up a lover's rendezvous with their mistress," says Houston. "The Super Bowl game can easily account for a large block of time that a wife or girlfriend is unlikely to question – especially if she's not a football fan."
Houston says her infidelity research indicates that one of the biggest problems cheaters have is carving out blocks of time from their schedule to spend with their affair partner or secret lover, adding:
"This is especially true during weekends which are normally reserved for their family or spouse. The Super Bowl represents a 3 to 4 hour block of time that can be used to hide a lover's rendezvous. The Super Bowl alibi has cropped up so many times in my interviews with cheaters over the years that I find it surprising no one else has ever bothered to point it out."
According to Houston, who is frequently called on by the media to comment on infidelity issues in the news, using the Super Bowl game to "aid and abet" infidelity is not exclusive to cheating men. She points out that cheating wives and girlfriends occasionally use the Super Bowl game to conceal a lover's tryst.
"Whether the unsuspecting husband or boyfriend is watching the game at home or at a sports bar with a group of friends, he's usually too engrossed in the game to wonder where his wife or girlfriend is during that time. She's free to meet her secret lover without fear of raising her man's suspicions, or worrying about getting caught."
