Our new Champion for Good, Josh Kaplan, has been an incredible Ad Council partner. In Josh’s role as the Director of Strategic Ventures at United Entertainment Group, he was responsible for launching the new influencer management tool f(IQ). f(IQ) helps brands discover, manage and report on influencer partnerships. The Ad Council has been honored with access to the tool and it’s already changing the way we approach influencer engagement. We sat down with Josh to learn a little bit more about him and his passion for social good.
Ad Council: Smokey Bear or McGruff?
Josh Kaplan: Smokey Bear, of course
AC: What’s on your desktop home screen?
JK: My trip to the Taj Mahal
AC: Android or iPhone?
JK: iPhone always
AC: Favorite social platform?
JK: Instagram
AC: Favorite social good ad campaign?
JK: Autism Awareness because it hits close to home.
AC: In a nutshell, what’s your job/what do you do?
JK: I am responsible for changing the way we (and the brands we work with) leverage cutting-edge technology to reach consumers in an authentic way.
AC: How do you think advertising can be a force for good?
JK: The root of advertising is in storytelling, and we can use it to portray our messages organically.
AC: What’s the best professional advice you’ve ever been given?
JK: To paraphrase Thomas Edison (as he was paraphrased to me), “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” It is paramount to learn from failure, and embrace it.
AC: Who’s been your greatest influence?
JK: My mother. She taught me to persevere, and to grow from each experience.
AC: What have you gotten out of working with the Ad Council?
JK: Too much to list. But I’d like to call out one thing: Passion. The passion behind the team at the Ad Council is contagious, and lights a fire under my group to continue our fantastic, and meaningful, work together.
