Golden, Colorado, October 31, 2018.  Dreams of golden retirement years sometimes result in years of physical disability, poor health or living in a nursing home. What steps are you taking today to remain healthy, and self-reliant as you age?

My mother made us promise never to put her in a nursing home. Fortunately, we were able to honor her wish. Caregivers and family members can take steps today to avoid nursing home placement. We can all take steps today to remain healthy, active, and vital as we age that were unknown years ago.

My mother was of a generation that did not know about embracing health and positive aging. Her generation smoked cigarettes, was unaware of the benefits of exercise, and ate fried and fatty foods. Because of her poor health and early death at age 69, I became interested in positive aging and for the last 20 years have been a caregiving advocate.

Simple actions that we can all take in our daily lives can make a difference in how we will feel and live in our retirement years.

  • Exercise
  • Stop smoking
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Embrace good nutrition
  • Think positively

And to support all of the steps, consider taking vitamins and supplements to support your body, your immune system, and to manage stress. Check out my article, "The 5 Best, Most Critical Vitamins and Supplements to Take at Any Age."

It's never too late to embrace positive aging. Changes in our daily activities combined with positive thinking help us age well and remain active and engaged well into our 70's, 80's and 90's.
