Upgrading your rack system could help to maximize storage space. When choosing the right pallet rack, look for racks suitable to the size of your inventory. (You may get away with narrower pallets if you only stock small items.) Make good use of the vertical space within your warehouse. To maximize space in a small warehouse, you may consider switching to a sliding pallet rack system that allows you to slide rows of racks like coat hangers on a clothing rail. As for making access to the racks easy, consider options like pull-out rack drawers and mobile lifts. More extensive warehouses will typically use forklifts. 

Start Using RFID Readers

Digitizing your warehouse is very important. Doing so includes having clear maps for workers to access on a computer and tracking tools. The goal is to register every time an item is added, moved within, or removed from the warehouse. RFID scanners are worth adopting for helping to scan items, helping to reduce picking errors, and monitor stock easily. There are other types of scanning tools that you can also research. 

Add Clear Signage

New employees are most likely to have accidents or make mistakes within your warehouse. If you experience a relatively fast staff turnover, it may be worthwhile to help guide newer recruits with signage around your warehouse. The suggested signage includes warning signs and helpful instructional signs. Of course, signage should not replace training – it is simply a way of supplementing it. 

Refinish Your Floor

Warehouse floors can become marked and damaged over time due to constant footfall, spillages, and other factors. The wear could make the floor harder to clean and ultimately affect your warehouse’s appearance and hygiene. Large chips in your warehouse flooring could be a health and safety hazard. Consider whether it’s time to refinish your flooring. You can easily resurface the flooring by adding a new layer of concrete over the top or adding a new layer of resin paint

Refurbish Your Breakroom

 Most warehouses have a breakroom for employees to use when on their break. Consider investing some money into this breakroom, so it’s not just an empty room with a bunch of plastic chairs. It can ultimately help employees to enjoy their break and improve morale. Consider first buying some comfortable seating. Adding snacks, a vending machine, or a coffee machine may be worthwhile for employees to use on their break. You could even consider adding a TV for employees to watch while taking time to refresh. 

Ask your employees for suggestions when thinking of ways to refurbish your breakroom. Doing so will allow you to create a space they want to use, not just one you think your employees will enjoy.
