Tomorrow is the “traditional." celebration that SPRING is here … but is it? In my neck of the woods—that’s Colorado—March and April are known as the “snow months." … blizzards drop in; days of snow can pile up. Many don’t think of spring planting until May and Mother’s Day as the safe zone. That means delays … sometimes in planning, and certainly in implementation … as in rationalizing doing much until it is weather safe.

I’m one of those who doesn’t wait. I’m chomping at the bit to get flowers into pots; to start the flow of color that my eye and senses crave. Am I on the alert that frost and snow could arrive, sometimes within hours? Sure. For my large pots—that’s what garbage bags are for. Within seconds, I pop in a stick to tent and cover—it adds a tad of warmth and protects the new growth from the elements. The next day (usually), they are off and I have color once again.

As an author, playing it “safe." may end up sabotaging your efforts.
