Saturday afternoon’s Georgetown Sweets Tour, sponsored by Georgetown Main Street, matched 12 retail locations with a sweet treat from a Georgetown shop. Thomas Sweet ice cream was matched with the Phoenix, for example. Major linked with bonbons from Petite Soeur.
Rachel Shank, executive director of Georgetown Main Street, said it was a fun way to get to know the town’s small businesses or get to know them better — or perhaps discover a place you’d never been to. Shank was interviewed by Fox 5 News before the tour.
This ingenuous way to tour Georgetown — that showed off 24 small businesses — will have a follow-up later this year with the Holiday Cookie Tour.

Farewell to Sara’s Market and Girma Hailu
After a Saturday musical salute by the Crush Fund band and neighbors saying goodbye, Sara’s Market at 3008 Q St. NW will shut its doors for good at the close of business on Tuesday, June 28. Business owner Girma Hailu — who last month closed his 7-Eleven at 2617 P St. NW after decades working there and owning the franchise with his wife Tsige “Chu-Chu” Sebsibe — made the difficult decision weeks ago.
Coming Soon: Pressed, Glosslab
The construction for the new juice joint at 1300 Wisconsin Ave. NW in the former space of the Papyrus card store is moving right along. Pressed says it began in 2010 as a 25 square-foot “juice closet” in Los Angeles and included a food truck in Malibu. It will offers its signature cold-pressed juices along with plant-based foods.
Glosslab, the hip nail salon coming to 1533 Wisconsin Ave. NW, says “Nothing gets the upper hand like properly polished nails.” Rachel Glass, founder of Glosslab, tells us: “So, with Glosslab, what started as a plan to enhance the nail experience with innovation, efficiency, and an ethical standard led to a stronger purpose of enhancing confidence: empowering a more polished you. ‘Always On. Always Polished.’ It isn’t just our tagline. It’s our way of life.”
Out: Georgetown Allure
Georgetown Allure, the skincare medical spa at 3288 M St. NW, next to Pizza Paradiso, has closed. The business announced that the closure is temporary — “Due to unprecedented delays in our revamp project at Georgetown Allure, we will be temporarily closed and all appointments are set to be reschedule. We appreciate your patience and understanding and apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused. We look forward to servicing you very soon!” — but its sign is off the building and a for-lease sign is in the window.
Planned: Shouk, Israeli Street Food
Shouk Food plans to come to 1426 Wisconsin Ave. NW, which currently houses Tugooh Toys. (No word on where Tugooh will relocate.)
Shouk tells us it offers “chef-crafted street food made from plants and Middle-Eastern spices. Plant-based, earth-friendly food inspired by the markets of Israel. Kosher-certified” The company adds: “We craft our food from fresh vegetables, beans, grains, and lots of spices. No labs, nothing processed or engineered. Just brilliant plants, made to inspire. … Our world’s food systems are broken. Livestock produces 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, our oceans are dying, and our bodies are suffering. A move towards plant-based eating is the answer to healing our bodies and planet.”
Other locations are Mount Vernon Square, Union Market, Bethesda and Rockville.
