We’ve spent hours on the roads near Boston and LA over the last two days. It’s been insufferable. Electric cars—assuming they can eventually replace these fleets, which is doubtful—may lessen the air quality problem but not the huge wasted, non-productive time. The roads are not built for this volume, and most cars—most that we observed—had one occupant, the driver. We seem to focus on the glorious lofty issues, but fail completely to take tangible steps about the existing inadequacy of the infrastructure.
Remote and hybrid work has not decreased the number of cars during commuting hours and, in LA, at any hour.
