BOP Staff Misconduct Business as Usual at New York City Federal Jails

I'm Larry Levine, and you may know me by my appearances on CNN and Fox News regarding the federal criminal justice system.  I now run Wall Street Prison Consultants and assist defendants entering federaI custody.

I spent 10 years at 11 different Federal Prison on a variety of federal charges and interacted with hundreds of BOP Staff during my time in custody. While many staff are professional correctional officers, there is no shortage of BOP Staff violating agency policy and committing serious federal crimes against the inmate population.

While the Federal Detention Center MCC New York where Jeffrey Epstein allegedly killed himself on August  10, 2019 has staff policy deficiencies, there is nothing new about BOP staff misconduct at the New York Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan or at its sister facility the Metropolitan Detention Center  MDC Brooklyn.

From 2008 until Epstein's mysterious demise, there have been 19 incidents of BOP staff at the sister facilities MCC and MDC being charged with crimes by the DOJ ranging from Sexual Abuse and Rape of female inmates, to assaults on male inmates along with smuggling and bribery.

And the problems aren't limited to just rank and file Correctional Officers.  A BOP Captain who was head of custody Salvatore Lopresti , was sentenced to 4 years in federal prison for assault and in the same time period 5 Correctional Lieutenants were also charged with various crimes with one Lieutenant Eugenio Perez recently being sentenced to 25 years for repeatedly raping female inmates.

  • Nine Staff were Charged with Sexual Assault (Rape) on Female Inmates

  • Four Staff were charged with Assault on Male Inmates

  • Four Staff Charged Smuggling and Bribery.
