As Good as Gold – A Comedy about Women in Hollywood -- Powerful Truths about Gender Equality in the Business

Today's entertainment news is filled with stories about women.  Movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp have helped focus on the need for women's empowerment everywhere.

At the 2019 Golden Globes, actresses Glenn Close, Regina King and Lady Gaga each spoke about the need for gender equality in show business and other arenas. Other female stars who support the issue include Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Geena Davis, Charlize Theron, Mila Kunis and Patricia Arquette.

Now, a new play is launching that speaks to the issue of gender parity and ageism in Hollywood. As Good as Gold, by award-winning writer, Marilyn Anderson, is a comedy that deals with these topics, yet does it with fun, theatricality and satirical humor.

A staged reading of the play was recently held at the Writer's Guild of America West. On Sept 27, 2018, the Inclusion & Equity Department of the WGA hosted over 125 VIP guests for an evening of rousing fun. There were tons of laughs and a standing ovation. In addition, the audience stopped the show five times during the performance with applause!

Testimonials:

  • "Hilarious…well-written…truths about the industry" –Cathy M., Arena Stage Literary Manager
  • "Wonderful, funny and timely" –Donna P., Golden Globe & Emmy nominated actress
  • "Empowering to women…  I got chills… heartwarming, insightful…" –Susan W., Nurse
  • "A real winner" –Dan W., WGA Career Longevity Committee
  • "Great characters… my sides hurt from laughing" –Randi K., Avid theatre-goer
  • "Sure to be an audience pleaser wherever it is performed." Dennis L., Splash Magazine

A second special encore performance, sponsored by Buywine.com an ViennaBakery.com, was staged at the Santa Monica Playhouse on November 11th. The play got rave reviews again.

With all the latest happenings in the industry, the timing is perfect for As Good as Gold.  The play features women in intelligent roles and addresses gender equality. It highlights numerous contemporary issues to which everyone can relate, yet it does it  with comedy, action and satirical fun. Plans are also underway for a film and television version.
