American Evaluation Association Expresses Disappointment in Labor Department Decision to Reduce Evaluation Funding

The following is a joint statement from American Evaluation Association President Leslie Goodyear, President-Elect Tessie Catsambas, and Past-President Kathy Newcomer that reacts to documents obtained by the Bipartisan Policy Center under the Freedom of Information Act about evaluation activities at the U.S. Department of Labor: 1

"The American Evaluation Association is deeply concerned and disappointed to learn that the U.S. Department of Labor substantially reduced funding on program evaluation.

"The Labor Department's chief evaluation officer and the related staff have developed tremendous expertise in coordinating evaluation activities across the department. Government should do everything it can to support the institutionalization of a strong capacity to engage in evaluation.

"The American Evaluation Association looks forward to working with leadership in the Labor Department, the Office of Management and Budget, and Congress to ensure government appropriately resources evaluation to ensure decision-makers have the information they need for an effective government."
