APTA Transit News - More Than 500 Public Transit Leaders Convene in Washington at APTA’s 43rd Annual Legislative Conference

More than 500 public transportation leaders will convene in Washington, DC at the 2018 American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Legislative Conference at the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel from March 19-20. This conference directs the industry's federal advocacy efforts and legislative strategy and offers sessions with key members of Congress, Hill staff, Administration officials, and Washington opinion makers. A variety of topics will be discussed, including: updates from USDOT; infrastructure investment; and issues affecting public transit and intercity passenger rail. The public transit leaders will spend Tuesday and Wednesday on Capitol Hill lobbying their congressional representatives.

Public transit agency leaders and APTA leadership will hold a press conference Monday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m. Speakers will discuss the importance of including investments in public transit in a proposed infrastructure initiative and opposing the Administration's proposed FY18 budget to the Capital Investment Grant (CIG) program and the TIGER program.

Also, as part of this year's Legislative Conference, APTA members will hear from U.S. Senator Jack Reed (R-RI); U.S. Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR); U.S. Representative Rodney Davis (R-IL); U.S. Representative Peter Defazio (D-OR); U.S. Representative Sam Graves (R-MO); and leaders from the Americans for Transportation Mobility Coalition; American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials; Associated General Contractors of America; U.S. Conference of Mayors; and the American Road & Transportation Builders Association.
